Online shopping has increased in the recent years and more and more people now rely on Amazon for their shopping needs. Scammers and hackers have realized that, and they are targeting Amazon customers through increased phishing scams. Amazon, just like any account you have on the internet is prone to being hacked and it is a good idea to add extra protection for your Amazon account, so it is harder for hackers to break into.

Amazon allows customers to add a Two Factor authentication method to add an extra layer of protection for your account. Two Factor authentication is a process that gives web services secondary access to the account owners to verify a login attempt. Typically, this involves a phone number and / or email address or a number sent by the Authenticator app.

One of the Authenticator apps I use is Google Authenticator which allows me to scan a QR code associated with any new account I make, and it is saved in the app. The next time I log in to my new app, it asks me for a numerical code, and all I must do is just open the Google Authenticator app to find that randomly generated code.

To set up Two Factor authentication on Amazon, follow the steps below:

First go to the Amazon homepage and log in.

Next, go over to Accounts & Lists and click on Account.

Next, click on the box labeled Login & security at the top of the page.

Next, click the Edit button on Two-Step Verification (2SV) Settings.

Then click Get Started and Amazon will walk you through the process of registering your phone number, or you can opt to use Google Authenticator app by syncing it through a QR code.

Finally, after your phone number or the Authenticator app has been verified, you can select trusted devices to bypass Two Factor Authentication or generate a code to log in via a mobile app.

To activate Two Factor Authentication method on the Amazon app on iOS or Android, simply tap on the three-line “hamburger” on the bottom right-hand corner.

Next tap on Your Account

Next tap Login & security

Then tap on Two-Step Verification (2SV) Settings and turn on Two Factor Authentication and choose your preferred Two Factor Authentication method.

Congrats! You are all set.
